This quote from an ancient Greek historian is never more apt than when you read the stories of real American heroes. (And I’m not talking about GI Joe).
Check out the Center of Military History and look through their archive of Medal of Honor winners. Read the citations, such as those of Cpl Jason Dunham, PFC Ross McGinnis, PO2 Michael Monsoor, or SFC Paul Smith, each of whom gave their lives during the Iraq War to save their comrades. Also visit the DoD’s Prisoner of War-Missing Personnel Office website to see the lists of those heroes still missing and those who have finally been accounted for.
As a society, we tend to show hero-worship to athletes, movie stars, musicians. But if you’re looking for a real hero to look up to, for yourself of maybe for your children, look no further than in the annals of military history.
This Memorial Day, remember the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in the name of freedom, and keep the loved ones they left behind in your hearts.
Exactly. We have many service men in our familes. We cannot forget them. I posted a great pic of my friend’s husband coming home…and hugging his two little girls. Check it out, if you’d like.
