J is for Just Like Heaven

To follow up Lynn’s awesome “I” post from yesterday…I also have a music video. “Just Like Heaven” is a fun song by a great band (well, maybe not one of music’s greatest, but fun to listen to nonetheless).

Is there a song that makes you happy every time you hear it, regardless of what’s going on in your life, and it always seems to come along at the right time? Mine transports me back to a time when I was experiencing all of the (probably hormone-induced) emotions of young love while still being quote-unquote “innocent.” I was happiest being around my friends and, while we experienced the usual middle/high school drama, I hadn’t yet been deeply hurt or disappointed by the real world. After school we danced like fools in our living rooms until our parents came home from work, or we rode around with the one friend who had her own car, blasting the music and singing at the top of our lungs.

The Cure is still around after all these years. I hear they’re performing at Lollapalooza this summer. Every once in a while I’ll hear “Just Like Heaven” or another favorite song from my youth, often playing in the grocery store, haha! Whatever I’m stressing out about at the moment gets put in perspective as I feel the true joy of hearing an old favorite song. Even if looking at Robert Smith in the video creeps you out a little bit, it’s hard to resist bopping to the music.

What are some of your feel-good songs? What specific memories do you associate with them?

  1. What a great idea for today’s post! I can’t imagine a world without music. It still amazes me how the same emotion can be evoked..even after many years… that was there when it was heard/felt the first time!!
