Z is for Zack Morris

That’s right: Saved by the Bell’s Zack Morris, for those of you who remember the Saturday morning TV show. I know, it’s his first name, which is hopefully not a cop-out. But deciding on a topic for Z was hard! From “Saved by the Bell focused on Zack Morris and his friends: Samuel “Screech” … Continue reading

The Penultimate Post: Y is Young Guns I and II

It’s my last post for the A-Z Challenge (Katie will be taking on Z tomorrow) and I bring to you the Brat Pack’s version of a western: Young Guns and Young Guns II. When the first Young Guns came out, I was an excited pre-teen. Just look at the cast–it’s an 80s teeny-bopper fantasy: Emilio … Continue reading

X Marks the Spot

X marks the spot…where today’s post is supposed to be. I’m kicking myself because I’ve had months to come up with a post for X and well, it just hasn’t happened. Trying to force it at the last minute hasn’t worked either. As far as blogging “rules” go, I’m a firm believer in writing quality … Continue reading

W is When Harry Met Sally…

When Harry Met Sally… is one of my top five favorite movies of all time. The coupling of Rob Reiner’s direction with Nora Ephron’s script might be one of the most romantic—and funniest—match-ups to occur in Hollywood. Add the perfect comedic timing of Billy Crystal as Harry and adorable, former America’s Sweetheart Meg Ryan and … Continue reading

V is for Visual

For some reason, I struggled with the letter V for the challenge and couldn’t come up with a blog post until the last minute. Then I decided to do a VISUAL post. Hopefully it’s not too much of a departure from our entertainment and media theme to share a current art event: My birthplace, New … Continue reading

U is Up

This is going to be one of the shortest blog posts you will ever read on here. But if you’re visiting from the challenge, I’m sure you appreciate that! Today’s U topic is Up, as in the movie Up from Pixar. One of the best family movies to have come out in the past few … Continue reading

T is for Trash TV

As I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I watched a lot of TV as a kid. More than I do now, anyway. In fact, the TV habit didn’t really stick around into my adult life, which became busy with school and work, sometimes both at the same time. These days, I actually watch … Continue reading

S is Springfield–Rick Springfield, that is…

Anyone who knows me knows I adore Rick Springfield. And by adore I mean love. And by love I mean obsessively devoted to. It began when I was about six and my Aunt Linda let me watch one of his performances on TV. After that I was hooked. I wore out my Working Class Dog … Continue reading

R is for Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption

This Stephen King novella inspired the 1994 movie The Shawshank Redemption, which starts with S, but Lynn and I are alternating letters and I got R, so I thought this was perfect. I could kiss Stephen King for writing this story. For an author who was, at that time, known primarily for his horrific fiction, … Continue reading

Q is Quan… or Qwan…

Jerry Maguire is my least favorite Cameron Crowe movie, but overall it’s not a terrible film. Although, honestly, I think without Ray (Jonathan Lipnicki), Dorothy’s (Renee Zellweger) son, and Rod (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), this would probably be a forgettable movie. Much of the dialogue seemed forced and Renee Zellweger’s character was awfully weak. I also … Continue reading
